A nail file can be used to refine the length, and shape, while smoothing out any rough or jagged edges.

How do you clip your fingernails and toenails properly?

Wash your hands and feet, and use clean clippers to trim your toenails. The best method is to cut toenails straight across, leaving them long enough so that the corners lie loosely against the skin at the sides. Avoid trimming your toenails too short, don't round the edges to avoid ingrown nails, and also don't try to cut the toenails into a pointy v-shape.
